This August, Ismail Amin, Founder and Partner at TALG, will participate in the Sydney Marathon – not just as a personal challenge, but as an opportunity to support a cause that matters deeply to him and the firm: Endure to Cure (E2C), a nonprofit organization that helps families of children facing cancer and other serious illnesses.
Supporting Families Through Crisis
“Endure to Cure supports the families of children with cancers and other diseases,” says Ismail. “We’ve supported E2C because of its impact on the lives of so many families who cannot pay basic living expenses while caring for sick children.”
Founded with a mission to bring real, immediate relief to families in crisis, Endure to Cure focuses on providing practical and emotional support during an incredibly difficult time. Through programs like the Small Miracles Initiative and the Travel for Treatment Program, the organization helps cover essential needs—gas, tolls, parking, lodging, and more—so families can focus on their child’s care rather than financial hardship.
Jason Sissel, E2C’s founder, shares the inspiration behind the organization: while climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro at 16,000 feet, he felt his late grandfather’s presence and realized his life’s purpose was to help others, particularly children and families facing cancer. What began as a passion project alongside another business has evolved to include not only gifts and experiences for children, but practical support for travel, and soon, an insurance advocacy program to help families fight claim denials.
E2C is unique in that it combines this hands-on support with a powerful awareness component, driven by endurance athletes who dedicate their physical challenges to raising funds and visibility for the cause.
A Mission That Resonates
E2C’s approach – combining endurance events with a mission-driven purpose – struck a personal chord with Ismail.
“Their mission resonates with me deeply because they help children and their families deal with significant health and financial challenges all at once,” he says. “I love their mission and the fact that they raise awareness through endurance events as well.”
Jason emphasizes that anyone can make a difference. Individuals can join charity race teams, volunteer, or offer professional expertise to help families navigate insurance denials. Businesses can provide sponsorships, employee fundraising and matching, or pro bono support. “Every contribution of time, talent, or resources plays a part in ensuring that no child’s fight against cancer is made harder by unnecessary financial or logistical burdens,” Jason notes.
A Reflection of TALG’s Values
The decision to support E2C also reflects TALG’s longstanding commitment to service. While the firm is known for its work in business, banking, biotechnology, and family law, it has quietly and consistently given back through pro bono efforts.
“One of the unheralded attributes of TALG is our service to the community,” Ismail notes. “We’ve taken on dozens of pro-bono cases throughout the years, and last year alone donated over 500 hours. Giving back is critical to what we do and our ethos, which is aligned with E2C’s mission.”
The partnership between TALG and E2C began back in 2017, when Ismail joined E2C’s Berlin Marathon team. A shared love of endurance sports, cars, aviation, and a passion for making a difference quickly grew into a friendship with Jason. The following year, Ismail joined E2C’s board, and TALG has since become a trusted partner—offering legal guidance that has helped the nonprofit grow stronger and extend its reach.
Jason reflects on the partnership: “When people from different backgrounds bring their talents, passions, and values together, truly remarkable things can happen. With TALG, that means turning legal expertise, advocacy, and compassion into real-world impact for children and families in the fight of their lives.”
More Than a Race
Ismail’s participation in the marathon is also part of a broader goal: earning the prestigious 7th Star – awarded to runners who complete the six major world marathons plus Sydney. But, he says, that’s secondary to the impact this event can have.
“It’s about bringing awareness to a great cause and hopefully raising more funds for E2C,” he says. “If that can help even a few more families get the support they need, it’s worth every mile.”
